Play Store feature which reduces the size of the app will be mandatory

Google recently announced that the App Bundle feature, which significantly reduces the size of applications, will become mandatory from 2021 on in the Play Store. The tool will serve as a prerequisite for the platform's release of new programmes.

Google's engineering director, Milena Nikolic, describes in a video published on the Android developers website, that the novelty would be mandatory for new applications. However, the company also recommends the adoption of the tool by current apps.

The Software Package, released two years ago, is a developer tool that allows you to compartmentalize and customize the application, so that each Android device can download the codes required to run the program. The tool allows applications to be distributed up to 65 per cent smaller in size, according to Google.

Since the Software Bundle is a developer tool, the trend is that end-users do not notice changes in their apps, except for a reduced storage space. For those who deal with apps, accessing the Android website and getting acquainted with the tool is a tip.

The compulsory use of the Application Bundle is not the only novelty Google has announced promising to change the lives of Play Store users. The company has also recently announced the Asset Delivery, a program that aims to automate application updates and make downloads faster.

The company also launched this month the first beta of Android 11, which is already being distributed on Pixel phones and will soon arrive on certain Xiaomi devices, in addition to bringing more tools for developers. The open test allows users to start experimenting with the new version of the OS to help develop the program, which will arrive in the second half of the year at its final edition.
